Interview with Youri Hollier, Content Marketing Manager at DavidsTea

By Lauren | March 14, 2016 | 0 Comment

As part of my series where I’m interviewing one young professional each month in the marketing and/or communications industry, I chatted with Youri, Content Marketing Manager at DavidsTea. I’ve been following Youri for awhile now since DavidsTea has always been a brand I looked up too, and not just because I love their tea. Read on to see what Youri had to say about working at DavidsTea, and what skills you need to be successful in a role like his!

Introduce yourself – what should we know about you?

Aside from being obsessed with tea, I love reading about social media and content marketing. It’s amazing to see what brands are doing in the field these days.

Tell me a bit about your role at DavidsTea.

As Content Marketing Manager, I manage our content and social media initiatives. From contests to blog posts to listing page management, my role touches all of our digital assets outside of the eCommerce site.

What is your educational background or past experience that helped you land a job at DavidsTea?

I have a Bachelor of Commerce in Marketing, but my role at DAVIDsTEA is the result of the company promoting internally. I started as a Tea Guide at our second store. A year and a half later, I was given the opportunity to come on as a PR coordinator. From there, I took over the company’s social media, and the role grew from there!

How long have you been working there?

Six and a half years.

What does a day-in-your-life look like in your role?

The beauty of content marketing and social media is that no day is the same, but my days usually consist of a mix of content, social, research, planning and reporting.

What have been necessary skills or experience to be successful in your role?

One of the most important lessons I’ve learned over the past several years is how to stay focussed. With a never ending stream of incoming and outgoing content, it’s easy to get overwhelmed. But if you just take a minute to breathe and assess a situation rationally, you’ll find the job goes much more smoothly, regardless of the volume.

What advice do you have for someone who wants to work for DavidsTea?

Approach the job as if you were a customer. One of our main strengths is that we strive deliver the best customer service imaginable, so it’s important to view each decision through the eyes of our fans.

What is your favourite part about your job?

More than anything, I love how creative this job lets me be. Whether it’s coming up with a comprehensive campaign or a single caption, I’m constantly exercising my creativity.

Anything else we should know about you or working at DavidsTea?

They say that if you do what you love, you’ll never work a day in your life. Working in the field I’m in and for the company that I do, it couldn’t be any truer.
